Keep Your Heart Healthy
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S. Although you do not have control of your genetic risk factors for getting heart disease, you can control several things that can reduce your risk.
Printables
- Get the Reduce Your Risk of Heart Disease educational sheet (PDF).
Group tip: Print a copy for each group member or share this sheet electronically. - Get the Heart health BINGO activity sheet (PDF).
Print the activity sheet or save it to your desktop to digitally track. It can be used individually or as a group. Here are some ideas for using this with a group:- Find a partner to share your SMART goals with. Encourage your partner to stretch his or her thinking and provide specific feedback to help improve his or her goals. Be prepared to receive feedback too.
- Create a virtual or physical kindness board to share the ways your group was kind to others.
- Compare notes about how you plan to safely exercise outdoors this winter.
- Bring healthy snacks to group gatherings and meetings.
- Try and share recipes that are meatless, have beans, call for healthy fats, are low in sugar or are high in vegetables.
- Challenge your group to get to know their numbers.
- Hold walking meetings. Go for a walk with your group rather than meeting in a conference room or for dinner.
