Your provider may recommend neuropsychological testing to:

• Establish a baseline to evaluate changes that occur over time or after surgery
• Measure the effects of rehabilitation, medication or other treatment
• Recommend whether you can drive, go to work or school or participate in sports

Neuropsychologists tailor testing based on factors such as your condition, age and abilities. They will review your medical record and may talk to other people in your life, such as close family members and friends, to collect more information.

There are many types of neuropsychological assessments. They may be oral, written, digital or task-based.

How can I prepare for a neuropsychological evaluation?

You cannot study for this type of test, but being prepared can make the experience easier. Get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy meal beforehand. Also wear comfortable clothes as well as your glasses and hearing aids, if you need them. Be sure to follow the instructions outlined by your provider prior to your testing.

How long does neuropsychological testing take?

Testing usually takes several hours. You can take breaks as needed. For longer evaluations, we can split the testing into two shorter days.

Does insurance cover neuropsychological testing?

Most insurance plans cover neuropsychological testing. We encourage you to check with your plan to find out about your individual coverage.

What are my payment options, and do you offer financial assistance?
