When you need quick, convenient care for common conditions, Mayo Clinic Health System experts offer assessments, care recommendations and/or treatment services through Express Care Online. Services are available for patients ages 18 months through 75, unless otherwise noted.

Conditions and consultations

The team offers consultations and personal treatment plans for a variety of common conditions. For some conditions, age ranges will apply. You also may be asked to schedule an in-person visit for some services.

Patients can use Express Care Online for these conditions:

• Acne
• Athlete's foot
• Bladder infections (females, ages 12–75)
• Canker sores
• Cold sores
• Cold symptoms
• Constipation
• Dental issues
• Diarrhea
• Impetigo
• Insect bites
• Lice
• Mastitis (breast infection)
• Minor burns
• Minor skin infection
• Nausea
• Oral contraceptives (new prescription only, females, ages 18 to 34 years)
• Perioral dermatitis (rash around mouth)
• Pertussis exposure without cough
• Pink eye (conjunctivitis)
• Poison ivy
• Rashes
• Scabies
• Seasonal allergies
• Shingles
• Sinus symptoms/Sinusitis
• Smoking cessation (18 years and older)
• Sore throat
• Stye
• Sunburn
• Tick exposure
• Travel-related motion sickness
• Vaginal yeast infection (females, ages 18–65)
• Vomiting

These conditions and treatments are not provided with Express Care Online:

• Abdominal pain
• Animal bites
• Back pain
• Chest pain
• Fractures or sprains
• General medical or well child physical examination
• Stroke (F.A.S.T. symptoms: facial drooping, arm weakness and speech difficulty)
• Trauma or injuries
• Urinary tract infection (males)
• Vaginal examinations

Diagnosis and treatments

Virtual appointments are available and can be scheduled through the patient portal or by calling your primary care provider. The treatment model may vary by location.

Our experienced, advanced practice providers offer:

• Medication renewal (short-term, nonnarcotic)
• Minor burn care
• Oral contraceptives prescriptions (new prescriptions only, females ages 18–34)
• Prescriptions for common conditions, such as antibiotics and eye drops
• Smoking cessation support for adults

Virtual consultations are available through the patient portal. Answer a diagnostic questionnaire on the patient portal, and receive a written care recommendation within one hour, if submitted between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. If you submit after hours, you'll be contacted by 9 a.m. the next day. Some written responses may require you to follow up with an in-person or virtual appointment.

The cost of an appointment for Mayo Clinic Health System Express Care Online may be partially or completely covered by your insurance. Check with your insurance provider today. To access this service, log on to the patient portal.
