The BirthPlace
About the Birth Center in Red Wing
Designed with the comfort of patients and needs of staff in mind, the birth center offers many services and amenities:
Clinic connection
The Obstetrics & Gynecology clinic is connected to the birth center. In the event of an emergency, women can be transported immediately to the hospital, saving valuable time.
Labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum rooms
Five private labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum rooms offer a homelike atmosphere that combines the highest level of comfort with advanced obstetrical equipment and technology. Each labor room has a tub, so you can benefit from a soothing bath during labor or after delivery. There is plenty of space for family members who wish to be with you during labor and delivery or visit after baby arrives. At mealtime, you and your support person can order room service meals from the inpatient menu.
Nursery care
Babies needing a higher level of care are transferred to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, where a highly trained and experienced team will provide seamless care.
Family waiting room
The family waiting room is equipped with many comforts of home. It allows family and friends who are not in the room with you during labor a special place to wait for the arrival of the new baby. It also provides a welcome place for dads, children, grandparents and other visitors to sit if you need to take a break or rest.
Security
To provide the safest environment for your new bundle of joy, the birth center is a locked unit. Upon arrival to the unit, visitors should push the button to be granted access. In addition to the numbered identification band, your infant also will be wearing a security sensor that electronically alarms in certain conditions. Be sure your baby has both an identification band and security sensor on at all times. Tell your nurse if one falls off.
Nourishment center
A nourishment center with snacks, as well as a refrigerator and microwave, is available for you.
Lactation and breastfeeding resource room
Lactation counselors are available to provide support and assist with breastfeeding needs during your stay. The lactation counselors are also available on an outpatient basis after you go home.
