Pulmonary Rehabilitation is designed to help you maintain healthier lungs through supervised exercise sessions and health education.
The education component
Education will increase your awareness of pulmonary disease - its causes, prevention and treatment. Classes are incorporated into scheduled sessions.
The exercise component
Pulmonary rehabilitation exercise programs are individually tailored and can include this equipment:
Arm ergometer
Bicycle
Hand weights
Treadmill
Participants will attend sessions one to two times weekly for one hour up to 36 sessions. The number of sessions may vary.
Cost
Most insurance, health maintenance organizations and government reimbursement plans will cover 80% of program costs. Direct questions to your specific provider.
Enrollment
Your physician will refer you to the program.
Additional information
Please note the following:
Wear comfortable clothing.
Rubber-soled shoes with arch support are recommended.
Do not eat a heavy meal prior to exercise session.
Take your medication on your normal schedule.
