Max Wetzel, M.D.

I am a resident in the Mayo Clinic Family Medicine Residency Program in La Crosse.

Trust is first and foremost in any relationship. Nothing can happen in medicine until the I earn your trust, including being invested in your best interest, being humble enough to admit when I am wrong and being honest when I do not know the answer or the truth is tough. Holistic medicine is critical for good care where problems are best solved at the source, offering respect and understanding.

I am passionate about educating patients because I believe it offers freedom. Life and medicine are confusing oftentimes, and I will take time to explain these complex medical words and concepts in easier-to-understand language. Education is a gift that can allow to ease your fears, find more peace and finally take your life back.

I believe achieving balance is the art of medicine. This includes being thorough with ordering lab tests to ensure your safety while also considering avoiding extra test costs, Evidence-based medicine is core to effective treatment, yet I will also consider what is realistic for your situation and when exceptions can be made.

I entered medicine because I value meaningful connections, and I am grateful for all my patients.

I was born in the Mayo Clinic Franciscan Skemp hospital here in La Crosse. I grew up in the area on a pig farm. I learned values and hard work, and my Christian faith taught me to value and care for others. While in medical school, I was part of the Wisconsin Academy of Rural Medicine. Along the way. I have developed a passion for the Spanish language and culture. I am excited to serve all rural folks.

l am an outgoing individual who loves to laugh. In my spare time, I enjoy being active outdoors hunting, fishing, hiking, golfing, playing tennis and skiing, and being active indoors weightlifting. I value my rest through meditation, prayer, reading fantasy novels and watching Star Wars. I love all things sports and games and am a die-hard Packers fan! I love spending time with my friends, family and my girlfriend.
