I believe that therapy is a cooperative process between the practitioner and the client and that the client knows themself best. I encourage open communication and believe that open and honest communication is necessary to provide teaching of the most effective skills for progress toward client goals. I generally utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) skills in practice. I tailor the skills teaching and practice to the need of the client which usually results in an eclectic set of skills from a variety of evidence based therapy sources.
I have been providing therapy to clients for the past 30 years. I started in residential treatment for adolescents before coming to Mayo Clinic Health System (MCHS) in 2011. This setting allowed me to also work with their parents and diverse populations. I have been working with clients of all ages at MCHS. The mental health areas addressed include, but are not limited to, anxiety, depression, PTSD, trauma, behavioral issues, ADHD, grief, stress management and struggles with emotional regulation.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family, being in the outdoors, solving puzzles and enjoying new experiences.
