Student Education Team
Several Primary Care providers, nurse practitioner and physician assistant students, have formed the student education team at Mayo Clinic Health System in St. James. Together, the provider and student listen, assess, diagnose, educate and treat you. As a patient, you can choose to schedule an appointment with the student education team.
What does a student education team appointment mean for you?
You will receive the most up-to-date care with the student-led team. The student will gather a history and perform a physical assessment. The student will consult with the supervising provider. The appointment time may be longer due to the thorough assessment and consultation between the student and provider.
Your willingness to being seen by a student contributes to the learning of future healthcare providers. Students learn from patients, as well as their mentors and educational institutions.
The student education team has immediate openings for patients to be seen and to book appointments. Please note, we can’t guarantee which supervising provider you will see on the student schedule.
Why is Mayo Clinic Health System offering student education teams?
Mayo Clinic's mission is to transform healthcare for patients and society through excellence in education, discovery, innovation and leadership. In this spirit, Primary Care is partnering with educational institutions that offer high-quality programs. Together, they will develop the future generation of healthcare providers.
What if I have additional questions or concerns about student education teams?
The student education team strives for your comfort and safety. Your health is the No. 1 priority. The student education team understands students may not be a good fit for every patient or appointment. Thank you for your support in the education of future healthcare providers. If you have questions or concerns, please talk to a member of the teaching team.
