Student Opportunities in Lake City
Mayo Clinic Health System supports health care education by offering clinical and nonclinical student opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate students. Our mission is to inspire hope and contribute to health and well-being by providing the best care to every patient through integrated clinical practice, education and research.
Because our first priority is meeting the needs of the patient, approval of requests for clinical and nonclinical experiences are based on the nature of the request and our ability to support it.

Internships
Internships relate to clinical or nonclinical experiences required for academic credit. They may be referred to as preceptorships or practicums. We offer undergraduate and postgraduate experiences in Nursing and other areas.
Internship requests are made through the Clinical Experience Request Form. The form should be submitted at least six months prior to your requested date for the approval and placement process to be completed. Upon submission, the form will be routed to appropriate staff on the campus of your choice. Note: Do not submit this form if you're an NP or PA student.
If you have an approved non-nursing clinical experience, completion of all orientation materials is required before you begin.
Nursing Collegiate Program recruitment
The Department of Nursing offers community nursing education partners an opportunity to meet with our staff in order to share information about their program offerings. Information sessions for RN, PN, MA, HUC, surgical technician and paramedic programs may be scheduled once per quarter at these locations:
Contact us by email if you have questions.
Nurse practitioner and physician assistant
The Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences coordinates all nurse practitioner and physician assistant clinical placements.
All nurse practitioner programs require students to apply principles, concepts and critical thinking skills learned in the classroom in an acute care and/or clinic setting. We are pleased to offer experiences in the health care setting as they are an integral part of the education process. For more information, visit the Nurse Practitioner Clinical Education Collaboration Program website.
All physician assistant programs include clinical experiences during which students apply the principles, concepts and critical thinking skills they learned in their didactic education. We are pleased to support these experiences as capacity allows. For more information, visit the Physician Assistant Clinical Rotation Program website.
