If prominent ears, or ears that appear to stick out farther than normal, leave you feeling insecure about your appearance, ear surgery, or otoplasty, can help. Otoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to set prominent ears closer to the head or correct congenital or trauma-induced ear abnormalities. This procedure is available to patients of all ages.
During otoplasty, the physician will surgically change the shape, position or size of your ears. Incisions can be made on the backs of the ears, as shown below, or within the inner creases of the ears.
Not all treatments, tests and services are available at all Mayo Clinic Health System locations. Check with your preferred location in advance.
